Boys’ Bathroom Renovation: Tile Progress & A Few Surprises

We’re about 90% wrapped up with tile in the boys’ bathroom, and it’s looking so good. This space has come such a long way from its original all-blue beginnings, and the tile is really setting the tone for the entire design.
Since our wall tile didn’t come with a coordinating bullnose or pencil trim, we decided to use quartzite for those details instead. It’s a little more custom, but it ties everything together beautifully and adds that elevated touch I love bringing into even the most hardworking spaces.
The Sink Switch-Up
I made a last-minute pivot (because of course I did) and decided not to use the original concrete vessel sink we had planned. Instead, I went with a white porcelain vessel sink from Kingston Brass. It’s clean, timeless, and feels right for this space.
Here’s the catch: I didn’t update my drawings before the countertop went in, something we would never let slide on a client project, and now the faucet needs to be raised. So we had to pause finishing the tile while we sorted that out. A little reminder that even designers have “whoops” moments in their own homes.
Plumbing & Fixtures
We’re still obsessed with how everything is coming together. For plumbing, we went with a classic satin nickel finish that’s low maintenance and perfect for a kids’ bath, but with a fun twist. The cross-handle wall-mount tub and sink faucets from Kingston Brass’ Concord line give the space the right mix of classic and playful.
The Toilet Debacle
Quick funny story: we had the hardest time finding the internal wall components for the wall-mounted toilet. After some back and forth, our plumber finally tracked down what he needed. But somewhere in translation, I thought he said, “Return that toilet, I got you a different one.”
So… I returned the very heavy toilet.
Fast forward a few weeks, and we had to go back and buy it again. Oops.
What’s Next
Once the plumbing is fully installed, our drywall team will be back for touch-ups and then paint. The storage cabinet we ordered for behind the toilet (which we waited to order until measurements were final) should be arriving next week, so we’re almost there.
It’s always amazing to see a project reach this stage, when all the careful planning and problem-solving start to pay off. The boys’ bathroom is shaping up to be such a fun, durable, and elevated space, and I can’t wait to share the finished reveal soon.
