Shaded Drive

Square Footage: 5000
Bedrooms: 3
Bathrooms: 4.5
Home Style: Traditional Whimsical
Project Type: Interior and Exterior Renovation

Client Brief:
This beautiful lakefront home is situated on acres of land, accessible via a long and shaded driveway. While the home benefited from its lovely shade, it lacked the character and personality the clients desired. Additionally, it did not fully capitalize on the stunning lake views. Interestingly, the home was built with its front facing the water and the back oriented towards the driveway.

Our goals for this project included:

  • Designing a new front entrance to create a more welcoming approach from the driveway.

  • Adding additional windows, glass, and French doors on the lake side to enhance the view.

  • Opening up the interior to allow for more expansive views of the water.

  • Fully updating the bathroom, kitchen, and living spaces with new wallpaper, flooring, lighting, and furniture selections.

The result is a home that not only takes full advantage of its beautiful surroundings but also exudes the charm and personality that the clients were seeking.

Inspiration for the project:

The inspiration for the project stemmed from the client's favorite colors—pink and blue—along with a whimsical theme. To us, whimsical meant blending traditional patterns and styles with fun, modern details. These details included contemporary fabrics or wallpapers, unique art pieces, and playful silhouettes. Whenever a space felt too serious, we would step back and reassess, adding or removing elements to stay true to our whimsical vision. This approach ensured the design was both sophisticated and delightfully unexpected.

Unique Additions

The unique add-ons in this project were the extensive use of wallpaper selections throughout the home and the complementary fabrics. If the wallpaper was traditional, the fabrics were more modern or playful, creating a dynamic and balanced aesthetic. We layered brass and gold tones alongside marbles to add a touch of luxury and sophistication.

Another unique aspect was the client's art collection, which included a mix of traditional and abstract pieces. This collection added a personal and eclectic touch to the spaces.

Additionally, the investment in adding windows, glass doors, and improving natural light was crucial. The enhanced natural light allowed us to achieve a light and airy vibe, making the home feel open and inviting. This focus on natural light was essential in bringing the whimsical and vibrant design to life.
