Is R. Nickson Interiors Too Expensive for Smaller Projects?
When clients have smaller design projects in mind, they often feel that hiring an established interior design firm like R. Nickson Interiors may not be necessary or might be too costly for their needs. It’s a valid concern, and we understand why. While full-service design may not always be the best fit for smaller projects, that doesn’t mean you can’t benefit from our expertise and guidance.
Why Full-Service Design Might Be Costly for Smaller Projects
Full-service interior design, especially for a smaller scope of work, can feel like a hefty investment. The reality is that the time and effort involved in designing even a small space still require significant expertise, and our team dedicates hours of work to ensure the design is flawless.
For larger projects with multiple rooms or a whole-home renovation, we’re able to source materials and furnishings more efficiently because we’re working across several spaces at once. We’re able to streamline the process, coordinate with contractors and trades more effectively, and deliver a cohesive design for multiple rooms in a shorter time frame. The same amount of time for a single room doesn’t allow us the same efficiency when we’re sourcing for multiple rooms or coordinating with multiple teams.
More Affordable Options for Smaller Projects
That said, just because a small project might not be a good fit for full-service design doesn’t mean you can’t still have R. Nickson Interiors help you achieve a beautifully designed space. We offer a range of services that are more cost-effective for smaller projects but still provide you with the RNI quality design you deserve.
1. 2-Hour Consultations – A Powerful, Focused Meeting
For smaller projects, we recommend our 2-hour consultation. During this time, we can accomplish a lot! Whether you need help with selecting colors, confirming your design ideas, or narrowing down materials and finishes, we’ll provide you with expert guidance to help you move forward confidently.
This meeting is an opportunity to get answers to all your questions, receive expert feedback on your selections, and get a plan to proceed with the project. These consultations start at $525, and they are an excellent choice for clients who need professional guidance but don’t require full-service design support. You can also book multiple consultations throughout your project if needed—just be sure to schedule them a few weeks in advance.
2. Design for a Day – A Deeper Dive into Your Project
For clients looking for more hands-on help, we also offer our Design for a Day service. This option gives you six hours of focused design time with Nicole, where we dive deep into your project details. Whether you need help selecting flooring and tile, meeting with a kitchen cabinet vendor, or finalizing color schemes and finishes, we’ll tackle all the critical decisions to get you moving forward successfully.
This service is a great fit for semi-custom new builds and renovations where you need support with materials, selections, and design details, but don’t require full-scale project management. Design for a Day works well for those who want expert help in a condensed time frame.
3. Quality Design Without the Full-Service Price Tag
Even if your project and budget don’t align with a full-service design package, it doesn’t mean you can’t benefit from R. Nickson Interiors’ expertise. Whether you need a small consultation, detailed advice on a few rooms, or help navigating the design process, we’re here to help you bring your vision to life—without the pressure of a full-service contract.

If you have a smaller design project, R. Nickson Interiors is still a fantastic resource to help you make smart design decisions.
