Sherwin-Williams’ August Designer of the Month: A Reflection on Color, Function & Design

I’m incredibly honored to share that I’ve been named Sherwin-Williams’ Designer of the Month for August 2026.

Being recognized by Sherwin-Williams is a special accomplishment for me, not only because of the incredible work they do within the design industry, but because of how closely color is connected to the way I approach every project.

Color has the ability to completely transform how a home feels.

It can create warmth, establish a mood, highlight architectural details, and connect spaces that might otherwise feel separate. One of my favorite parts of the design process is finding those colors that make everything feel like it belongs together — creating a natural flow throughout a home without making every room feel exactly the same.

The Role of Color in My Design Approach

I’m drawn to layered, earthy interiors that feel timeless, welcoming, and personal. I love incorporating color alongside natural materials, texture, architectural elements, and furnishings to create spaces with depth and character.

For the project featured by Sherwin-Williams, we used Pure White SW 7005, Amalfi SW 6783, and Curio Gray SW 0024, a Historic Color.

The combination created a beautiful foundation for the space. The colors work together subtly, allowing the other elements of the design to stand out while still giving the home a sense of cohesion.

That’s what I love most about thoughtful color selection. It doesn’t always have to be the most noticeable element in a room. Sometimes, the best color choices are the ones that quietly connect everything around them.

Designing for Real Life

Sherwin-Williams described my work as creating “authentic, elevated spaces that balance beauty with real-life functionality.”

That description really resonates with me.

I never want a home to feel like it was designed simply to be photographed. While I absolutely love creating beautiful spaces, I believe a successful interior should also work for the people who live there.

My perspective as both a designer and builder allows me to consider the creative vision alongside the technical details and practical needs of a project. From the layout and materials to the finishes and final styling, every decision should contribute to a home that is functional, intentional, and reflective of its owners.

Creating Spaces That Feel Like Home

At the end of the day, my favorite projects are the ones that feel personal.

I want my clients to walk into their finished space and immediately feel like it belongs to them. The design should support the way they live, while also giving them an environment that feels inspiring and beautiful.

That’s why I love using color, texture, materials, and architectural details together. When those elements are thoughtfully layered, they have the ability to create something that feels cohesive without feeling overly designed.

I’m also grateful to my clients and collaborators who trust me with their homes and allow me to bring these ideas to life. Every project is an opportunity to create something meaningful, and I’m thankful for every person who has been part of that process.

This recognition is a wonderful reminder of why I love what I do — creating spaces where beauty and function come together, where color helps tell the story, and where every detail contributes to making a house truly feel like home.
